It is said that some of these metals may only be present as trace elements within individual bowls. Because of this, you will find each bowl having a slightly different shading each bowl, relating to the variety of alloys present. Some historical sources speak of bowls even being made of nine metals. When this is the case, Zinc and Nickel are included into the elemental mixture. Singing Bowls have been used in many ancient traditions although the exact uses are often vague. Specific historical records regarding Singing Bowl origins and uses have not currently been found, but the techniques necessary for making the bowls are known to have existed in Asia as early as 2500 years ago. The use of bells, cymbols and similar instruments in meditative practices was common, and it is probable that Singing Bowls were used in a similar manner in many cultures of the East. Both Buddhism and Hinduism include ideas of the role of sound and vibration in trance and transformation, as do other religions. The notion that sound and vibration affect consciousness is a widespread concept and forms the basis for the ritual use of drums and other instruments in shamanic religions. Using sound and vibration is a common form of therapy in many cultures, especially when someone is seen as out of balance or having lost his or her natural internal rhythm. Today, singing bowls are most often used as meditation aids. However, anyone can benefit from the relaxing, soothing effects singing bowls produce. Many people are also mysteriously drawn to the sounds and find them fascinating regardless of any spiritual connections.
